Why did you join the military? I wanted to see the world and serve our country.
Previous sports: Platform diving
How did you get started in cycling? When I was 11 years I wanted to earn cycling merit badge for Boy Scouts. To earn the badge I needed to do four 20 mile rides and one 50 mile ride. I ended up earning the badge in less then 2 weeks and after that I was hooked.
Most memorable race and/or experience in cycling: My 1st UCI race in Hobokon, Belgium in 2007. I just remember it was so ridiculously hard. We averaged something like 50km an hour for the first hour. After the first 30 minutes of racing I felt like throwing up and was just hanging on for dear life when the call came across the radio that I had to start working my way up to the front because our team leaders needed bottles. Welcome to European bike racing!
Most memorable experience in the military: My eight-month deployment to Iraq on the border of Syria.
