1-2 September 2007
Final event of the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series
Your help is needed -- please send us constructive feedback on the US Forces Europe Road Cycling Series! Are there events that we should keep and some that should go? Do we have the right categories? How is the schedule? Are holiday weekends good or bad? What about the scoring? What could we change to get more participants? More spectators? These are just a few ideas to think about but any ideas you have of what we do well or what can be improved will be welcome! Send to: debra@armedforcescycling.org

Trent Hornus just nipped Leslie Handy at the road race finish line to claim victory in the
senior (age 30 -39) division of the Vogelweh Race Weekend, the final event of the 2007 U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series. Hornus and Handy were one-two for each of the three weekend events - time trial, points race and road race. Micheal Brunnschweiler finished third in the time trial and road race and fourth in the points race to capture third overall. These top three finishers are all from Ramstein.
Martin Heinz, Spangdahlem, captured first place in the mens masters (age 40+) division by winning the time trial and points race and adding a second place finish in the road race. Robert Dettmer, Heidelberg was second to Heinz in both of Saturday's events but then won Sunday's road race for an weekend second place. Mainz Kastel's Phil Tinsley took third in all three events, finishing overall third.
Nikolas Kinder, Stuttgart, captured the men's open title in the same fashion as Heinz. Placing first in the time trial and points race but then second in the road race. Landstuhl's Corey Wilson placed second in the first two races and for the overall weekend. Raymond Duplesse of Landstuhl competed in the road race only, taking top honors but ending up third overall, having no points to show for the first two races.
Kaiserslautern's Maria Eoff captured top honors for the women, winning all three events. Melissa Nevin, Spangdahlem, was second.

Schedule:
Saturday, 1 Sep, Radrennbahn (velodrome) in the town of Schopp:
1000: Time Trial - 4km for men, 3km for women
Points races will start around 1300 (depends upon number of participants for the morning time trial) and category combinations will be determined on-site depending upon the number of participants in each category. Races are typically 30-50 laps of the 444 meter track.
Sunday, 2 Sep, Rhine Ordnance Barracks (ROB):
1200: Men's Master and Women's Open - 18 laps = 48.6km
1400: Men's Senior and Men's Open
- 22 laps = 59.4km

Awards will be presented to the top three in each category for weekend general classification. 2007 U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series awards will also be presented.
Time Trial: A favorite at past events! Each rider is alone against the track and the clock!
Points Race: Every five laps, participants will sprint for the finish line with the first four across the line receiving points (5, 3, 2, 1 points). The one with the most points at the end is the winner (not necessarily the first one across the line at the end of the race). Rules will be further explained and clarified on-site!
Road Race: A flat and fast race course!
Points for each stage will be awarded IAW "USFE Series Race Points". Ties will be broken using the road race results. Overall GC results will be awarded points using the same system and added to the previous series events for the category winners in the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series.
To Schopp: From Vogelweh, travel south on B270 approximately 10km to the town of Schopp. Schopp is a left turn off of B270. Follow the signs for "Radrennbahn" to the start area. Additional signs with "USFE" will also be posted.
To ROB: From Vogelweh, travel north on B270 approximately 1km to the "Opel Circle". The entrance for Rhine Ordnance Barracks is adjacent to the Esso gas station.
Lodging: Call Ramstein lodging at 480-4920 for a space-available room (they take calls 24-hours in advance). They can also help you with local hotel reservations. Vogelweh lodging is the closest to the event site (although Ramstein makes reservations for Vogelweh as well, you can try giving Vogelweh a call directly).
