Third event of the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series

Martin Heinz, Spangdahlem, dominated the masters race to win the event and to take over master's category leadership in the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series.  As he did in the previous series' event at Spangdahlem, Heinz took off from the start and left the competition to decide whether to chase or to compete for second place.  Robert Dettmer, Heidelberg, rolled in for second and John Guardia, Pirmasens for third

With only two riders in the women's field, Ann Lincoln, Spandahlem, bested Maria Eoff, Kaiserslautern.  Lincoln took over series leadership for the women's category with the win in this event.

With the men's open and senior categories racing together, Wiesbaden's Tom Essick and Ramstein's Trent Hornus registered in separate categories but worked together the entire race to take first in both!   In the men's open, Essick captured top honors with Nikolas Kinder, Stuttgart, in second and Raymond Duplesse, Landstuhl, taking third.  Hornus topped the men's senior podium with Spandahlem's Mark McClay capturing second and Ramstein's Leslie Handy in third.   Handy remains the leader in the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series standings for senior men.  Vilseck's Shawn Deal, despite coming in fourth today, remains on top of the men's open standings for the series.

This race was a German/American cooperative event organized together with the Radsport Club of Kaiserslautern and held in the town of Dansenberg.  The next and final event in the series will be hosted by Sembach/Vogelweh on September 1-2.  After three series events, there are 75 cyclists participating in the U.S. Forces Europe Road Cycling Series.
