2008 Military World Cycling Championship (CISM)

3 Oct - George Ganoung led the U.S. Armed Forces Team with a 12th place finish in the 21st CISM Military World Cycling Championships with a time of 32:52.92 (45.61kph ave) over the 25km course. Thirty-one athletes participated in the time trial. Jani Brajkovic, Slovenian military athlete and Astana professional, won the event in 30:32.93. Ian Holt placed 16th with a time of 33:24.26 and Sean Coleman came in 21st with a time of 34:17.28. Check back for photos!

3 Oct - This morning was training on the road course for all but the TT athletes. This afternoon, Ian Holt, George Ganoung and Sean Coleman will compete in the Military World Championship Individual Time Trial. The race is 2 laps of a 12.5km course for a total of 25km. Race favorite is two-time defending champion, Slovenian military athlete and Astana professional Jani Brajkovic. More to come after the race!

2 Oct - Today was training on both the road and time trial courses as well as preliminary and technical committee meetings. The highlight of events was the official Opening Ceremony in the Novo Mesto velodrome. All countries marched in service dress military uniform into formation in the infield of the track and we welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the Slovenian Military, the Official CISM Representative, the mayor of Novo mesto and others. For the U.S. Armed Forces Team, Marine Chris Judy was selected by the team to be the U.S. flag bearer for the ceremony.

- Arrival of the U.S. Armed Forces team from Aviano, Italy to Novo mesto, Slovenia went as planned with the U.S. Team settled in at the Slovenian military barracks. Of course, it was wonderful to once again meet our long-time military cycling friends from so many other nations.
