Team Presentation and Sponsor Announcement
29 February 2008

The 2008 U.S. Armed Forces Cycling Team and sponsors were formally presented today at the Randolph AFB Officers' Club. Base leadership and cyclists attended the presentation and reception to help kick off the 2008 season. Riders were introduced to the audience and a bit about the team's organization and commitment to excellence was explained. All of our athletes are military professionals first and then elite cyclists - a surprise to some. Returning from 2007 are George Ganoung and Sean Coleman from the Coast Guard; Holly Borowski and Ian Holt from the Air Force, along with Marine Chris Judy. New to the 08 squad are Marine Ken Young along with Bill Jacobus and Zach Garrett from the Air Force.

Announcement of this season's sponsors was a highlight of the event. Of course, the service branches, our units and our coworkers are our number one sponsors! Without the support and encouragement of our military units and our coworkers, an Armed Forces Team would not be possible. The team is very excited to announce that we'll be riding Cervélo frames, outfitted with Shimano and 3T components. Team manager, Debra Ponzio, comments "the opportunity for the Armed Forces Team to be sponsored by Cervélo, 3T and Shimano is incredible. These are the best bikes in the world!" The team will continue to wear competition uniforms supplied by Verge Sport. Armed Forces Cycling is also sponsored by FitLinxx, makers of "Intelligent Exercise Solutions" and Lifeforce, a unique "Immune System Bank" service.

Ponzio continued "We give a huge salute to all of our sponsors and thank them for their confidence and support of our program. As Armed Forces Cycling continues to grow, we rely more on the support of sponsors. It's critical if we are going to compete in larger races, both domestic and international. Our military athletes deserve this support as they rise through the elite ranks of this incredible sport."

In a surprise announcement, the team was told they have a training ride and lunch with Lance Armstrong scheduled for tomorrow!
