Armed Forces Team Tours The Center for the Intrepid
27 February 2008

The Armed Forces Cycling Team accepted an invitation to tour The Center for the Intrepid, a military rehabilitation facility for amputees and burn victims at the Brook Army Medical Center. Colocated with two new Fisher Houses, this facility is an absolutely amazing, state-of-the-art rehab center.  Team leader, Coast Guard LCDR George Ganoung said it best, "The positive attitude of every patient we talked with was very inspiring and made us realize how fortunate we are to be able to do what we do.  Despite all of the technology available to support and rehabilitate the patients, the most interesting thing was the fact that, while the patients were appreciative of all the center had to offer, they all deeply felt that the center’s staff was really the key component to their recoveries."  Patients are encouraged to reach beyond their limitations with an amazing array of practical lessons and recreational opportunities, all a part of the rehabilitative process.  Many patients are even able to return to active duty.   The cycling team was able to visit with several patients and received a tour from Dr. Rebecca Hooper, Center for the Intrepid Program Manager and Maj Bob Cornes, Brooke Army Medical Center Executive Officer.   It's a visit that made a huge impression on all and will not be forgotten.  The spirit, commitment and focus of both patients and staff is inspirational.  For more information on the center, see their web site - http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/common/page.php?ref=press_kit
