Army SSG Michael Gallagher Wraps Up the Weekend with a Liberty Cup 9th Place Finish

Michael Gallagher finished the U.S. Cyclocross National Championship weekend with a 9th place finish in the Liberty Cup on Sunday. This came after an 11th place national championship finish on Saturday.

Sunday's event was organized in an invitational format highlighting all of the newly crowned national champions. With 72 starters, Gallagher was one of 52 finishers. He wanted to close out the weekend with another good result before heading back to Germany, where he is stationed with the U.S. Army.

"I was going hard and holding on in 7th position", recounted Gallagher, "when I felt a pull in the muscle of my right leg. I had to back off a bit on the last lap but still finished 9th."
