Navy PO 1st Class Shawn Olin Finishes 9th in Urban Cyclocross
13 Nov 05

Navy's Shawn Olin finished 9th in the "Urban Cyclocross" knocking him down to 8th in the Southern California Cyclocross Series rankings.

This 8th race of the SOCAL Series was held in Palos Verdes, California. The recent rain storms followed by sunny and blue skies, brought ideal course conditions and, along with it, a bit of a surprise with a new dismount through a creek where an old bridge had been washed away. Replacing this bridge was a tricky boulder that forced competitors off the bike and scrambling for the top of this slick behemoth. This didn’t slow the 20 riders in the A Category who charged their way around the fast course which included the InCycle Hell Hill run-up (at over 150 meters long). After a bad mid-pack start, Olin quickly moved his way into 6th on the run-up. A crash towards the end of the first lap allowed the leaders to slip away while Olin got caught behind it, forcing a chase. His day was then put on ice when 3 crashes and a mechanical forced him to a 9th place finish. This result slid Petty Officer Olin down in the overall standings to 8th.

The next SOCAL Cyclocross race is in San Diego at the San Diego Velodrome in Balboa Park. The Adams Avenue Cross will be on November 20. Complete information and results can be found on the SOCAL Cyclocross web site: http://www.socalcyclocross.org/
