Army SSG Michael Gallagher Successfully Finishes a Full Weekend in Belgium
13 Nov 05
Michael Gallagher started the weekend events on Friday finishing 28th place in the one-lap time trial and 34th in the men's elite race at the UCI Category 2 Jarrmarktcross Niel cyclocross race in Belgium. The course was a 6-minute lap that was about 50% asphalt and 50% grass/cross terrain - not Gallagher's favorite! The race was won by reigning World Champion Sven Nys of Belgium.
Gallagher then moved on to compete in the two more Belgian UCI cyclocross events - Saturday in Lichtaart where he placed 28th and today in De Pinte where he came in a weekend-best 17th place.
According to Gallagher, it's getting a bit frustrating to always start in the back of the group (the start is based on international points), "I know it's making me stronger. I just stay focused on my goals and I know I'm on the right track. I am stronger and faster this year than ever before. Nothing can replace racing against the best in the world so I'll continue on this program."
